Challenge
Arlington’s Design Standards were created to enhance the economic vitality of the Town through attractive and consistent design. They were an outgrowth of economic development goals identified in the Arlington Master Plan that seek to identify areas of “economic underutilization”.
Response
The effort leveraged three parallel corridors unique to Arlington: Massachusetts Avenue and Broadway (bus transit), the Mill Brook (historic waterway) and the Minuteman Bikeway (regional recreational amenity/bike commuting path).
Results
The Guidelines have helped to attract reinvestment in former industrial areas that reside between the three corridors.
