The Challenge

Sanford, Maine has two dozen known brownfield sites within an historic mill yard of nearly one million square feet. While many of the mill structures are still in good condition, there is a need for a viable reuse plan in an economy that shows little evidence of market demand.

OUR RESPONSE

The redevelopment centers around the mill raceway, engaging the greatest number of property owners and leveraging specific market niches not identified in other communities.

The Results

The 40,000sf Sanford Mill has been converted to housing and commercial space and an environmental assessment of the International Woolen Company complex has been completed.
