The Challenge

Andover’s Historic Mill District (HMD) is a new zoning district of nearly one hundred acres to encourage smart growth in proximity to regional transit. Acres of surface parking, irregular traffic patterns and inadequate pedestrian infrastructure undermine connectivity between the Shawsheen River, commuter rail and Main Street.

OUR RESPONSE

Design guidelines are organized into corridors: River, Rail, Road to be sensitive to the watershed and encourage higher density along the rail and commercial corridors.

The Results

The guidelines and public engagement led to an RPF for the Town Yard site at the commuter rail station. A developer has been selected.
