David Gamble AIA, AICP, LEED AP is principal of Gamble Associates. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Kent State University and a Master of Architecture Degree in Urban Design, with Distinction, from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD). Upon graduation from the GSD, David received two awards – the Prize for Highest Cumulative Academic Record and Urban Planning and Design Award for Greatest Overall Achievement.
David worked from 1991 to 1995 with M&P Design in Zurich, Switzerland and the Office of Rob Krier/Christoph Kohl in Berlin, Germany. Subsequent to his work in Europe, he served as a full-time Assistant Professor at Syracuse University from 1997-2001. At Syracuse, David founded the interdisciplinary Community Design Center (CDC). The CDC engaged students, professional organizations, public officials and residents in the planning, design and execution of public realm redevelopment initiatives throughout Syracuse.
In 2004, David received the Western European Architecture Foundation’s Gabriel Prize, a grant for the study of architecture and urbanism in Paris, France. His research focused on the relationship of the city’s edge to its riverfront and the infrastructural investments that allow the two to work seamlessly together. Drawings from this work and his architecture sketches have been exhibited in Potsdam, Germany and Paris, France.
Before founding Gamble Associates, David was a Senior Associate at Chan Krieger Sieniewicz, a nationally-recognized Architecture, Urban Design and Planning firm based in Cambridge, MA. In this capacity, he led urban design projects in many cities, including Boston, Buffalo, Dallas, Knoxville, Oklahoma City, Syracuse and Tampa. He served as Project Architect for the award winning General Aviation Facility completed at Boston’s Logan International Airport in 2007.
David is currently a Design Instructor in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the GSD (Fall 2009/ 2010). He is the Co-Chair of the Boston Society of Architects Urban Design Committee and the Commissioner of Professional Communities on the BSA Board of Directors 2010-2012. He is the immediate Past-President of the Board of Directors of the Community Design Resource Center-Boston (CDRC-Boston). The CDRC-Boston provides pro-bono design assistance to non-profit organizations and communities in need. In this role, he has led and participated in multiple community outreach activities in Boston and the region.
David was a recipient of the National 2008 Young Architects Award by the American Institute of Architects. This award honors individuals “who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the professions early in their careers”.
